The Rīga Conference Policy Briefs, proceedings

Highlights from the 2021 conference discussions

About the Conference

Welcome message

There are significant geopolitical changes taking place in the world: a war is raging on the European continent, with Ukraine fighting for sovereignty of its territory; the security situation in different regions creates challenges for countries and the international community; and international organisations are looking for the means to bring stability and peace.

The solutions to these problems cannot be uncovered without discussions and clashes of opinions generating new ideas. The Rīga Conference traditionally serves as a meeting place for the politicians, experts, young leaders and media representatives from different countries around the world. It is a place where opinions, once expressed, are becoming a foreign policy and the security policy solutions of tomorrow.

Testimonials

The Rīga Conference has become an important platform for global leaders and decision-makers of various/security institutions to share viewpoints and debate the most recent issues pertaining to international security, defence and NATO's future plans.

Prof. Žaneta Ozoliņa

We facilitate debates at various levels, engaging high-level politicians, diplomats, experts, as well as local and international media. The event is organized jointly by the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO), the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.

Dr. Artis Pabriks. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence. “An important topic is how liberal democracies can preserve their influence globally, how they can preserve the European Transatlantic Alliance, how they can be stronger and not weaker, when facing the global challenges: hybrid, cyber, strategic communication, societal, to name just some of these threats. All these questions will be discussed in the upcoming Rīga Conference.”

Dr. Artis Pabriks

I had the amazing opportunity to participate in the Future Leaders Forum in 2021. Every aspiring young leader should apply. It was a remarkable experience that gave me many useful contacts, new friends and a lot of knowledge.
